Troubleshooting

Fixes for the common snags, from a folder macOS won't let Draftlist read to a sample that won't play, and how to report a bug.

Most snags come from macOS's folder permissions or from files that live in the cloud. Start here. If nothing fits, report a bug.

Draftlist can't read a folder

macOS asks before an app reads your Desktop, Documents or Downloads folder. If you clicked Don't Allow, Draftlist can't read what is there. You see it as:

  • "Skipped … can't be read right now" after a scan. Projects already in the list stay there.
  • An amber dot on a sample: "Can't be read right now — check Privacy ▸ Files & Folders."

To fix it:

  1. Open System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Files & Folders.
  2. Find Draftlist and turn on the folder (for example Desktop Folder).
  3. Back in Draftlist, press Scan, or press play on the sample again.

Note Each new beta build is a new app to macOS, so it may ask again. Click Allow.

A sample won't play

Draftlist says why under the player. The usual reasons:

Draftlist saysWhat it means
Not downloaded — press play to get it.The sample is in iCloud Drive. Press play and Draftlist downloads it first.
Dropbox keeps this online only.Make it available offline in Finder, then press play.
This file isn't on disk any more.It was moved or deleted. Draftlist lists it where the project expects it.
Can't be read right now.See Draftlist can't read a folder.
Couldn't download — check your connection.Connect to the internet and press play again.
Not enough free space to download this.Free some space on your Mac.
macOS can't decode .ogg files.Draftlist plays WAV, AIFF, MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC and CAF.

A project says Online only

The project is stored in iCloud Drive or Dropbox, not on this Mac. Draftlist lists it but can only read it once it is here.

  • Press Download on the project, or Download all online-only in Settings ▸ Library.
  • By default Download fetches just the sets: small and quick, and enough for everything Draftlist shows. Live fetches the rest when you open one.
  • Dropbox's older placeholders can't be downloaded by any app. Make them available offline in Finder.

Projects has more.

Draftlist needs to check your licence

Draftlist works for 24 hours between licence checks. Connect to the internet and press Retry. Pro and your licence explains the check.

Draftlist closed unexpectedly

The next time it opens, Draftlist asks Draftlist closed unexpectedly last time. Press Send a report… to open Report a bug with the details filled in, or Not now. It asks only once about each crash.

Report a bug

Open Help ▸ Report a Bug…, or press ⌘K and type "Report a bug". It is also in Settings ▸ About.

  1. Tell us what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead.
  2. Leave Include diagnostics ticked. It adds the last lines of Draftlist's log.
  3. Check What will be sent. You see the whole report before it goes.
  4. Press Send by email. Your mail app opens with the report to support@draftlist.app. Nothing is sent until you press Send there.

The report has your Draftlist and macOS versions and your Mac's model. It never has your licence key, your email address, your Mac's serial number or your home folder's name.

If the log section reads "No log yet.", Draftlist has not written its log on this Mac yet. Send the report anyway.

Copy diagnostics in Settings ▸ Advanced copies a shorter technical report, if support asks for one.
