Updates
How Draftlist checks for a new version, what the update window does, and why it should live in your Applications folder.
Draftlist offers each new version itself. You don't need to download it again from the website.
How Draftlist checks
- Draftlist checks for a new version when it opens and about once a day while it runs.
- To check yourself, open Settings ▸ About ▸ Updates and press Check for updates.
- To stop the automatic check, turn off Check for updates automatically in the same place.
- A check sends nothing about you or your library. Like any download, the server sees your IP address.
Note In the beta, the check may answer "Updates aren't set up in this build yet." Updates are switched on before Draftlist goes on sale.
The update window
When a new version is ready, Draftlist shows Draftlist (version) is ready, with what's new in it.
- Press Update now. Draftlist downloads the new version. Keep it open while it does.
- Draftlist checks the download's signature. A download whose signature doesn't match is never installed, and your copy stays as it is.
- Draftlist puts the new version in place, then restarts by itself.
Press Later to wait. Draftlist offers the update again the next time it opens, or a day later. The sidebar shows a quiet "Update available" line until then.
Keep Draftlist in Applications
Draftlist can only update itself from your Applications folder. If you open it straight from the disk image, it asks Move Draftlist to Applications? Press Move to Applications and it opens from there.
If an update doesn't finish
Draftlist shows The update didn't finish with the reason, and Try again.
| Draftlist says | What to do |
|---|---|
| Draftlist couldn't reach the update server. | Check your internet connection and try again. |
| The update didn't finish downloading. | Try again. |
| This update's signature didn't match. | Nothing was installed. Try again later, or tell us. |
| Draftlist couldn't put the new version in place. | Move Draftlist into Applications, then try again. |
| A newer Draftlist needs macOS (version) or later. | Update macOS first, or keep the version you have. |
What changed in each version is on the release notes page.
